DRY EYE MANAGEMENT

Treatment Options & Fees

Dry eye syndrome is a chronic eye condition requiring ongoing management to treat both the causes and the symptoms. Treatments aim to improve the health of the eye surface and enhance overall eye comfort and quality of life. Several types and levels of treatment are available depending on the severity and cause of the condition, and combinations of strategies may be required for more advanced dry eye cases.

Dry Eye Assessment

A comprehensive clinical assessment is the first step in managing dry eye disease. It begins with a thorough eye examination to diagnose the specific sub-type of dry eye and to identify contributing lifestyle factors or habits. A detailed dry eye evaluation is then performed, analysing tear film quality, stability, evaporation rate, and eyelid health using advanced diagnostic technology. Based on these findings, dry eye disease is accurately diagnosed and staged, and a personalised management plan is developed to target the underlying cause and severity for effective, long-term symptom relief.

IPL | Intense Pulsed Light Dry Eye Treatment

An innovative, evidence-based treatment for dry eye disease, IPL technology uses a series of intense light pulses in a safe, painless and non-invasive procedure that stimulates the Meibomian glands to regenerate and return to normal function, providing deep heating of the eyelids to liquify clogged glands and aid expression of meibum. Results include microvascular changes in the skin and reduction in inflammation. The E-EYE IPL protocol consists of 4 sessions: Day 0 / Day 15 / Day 45 / Day 75. The effect is cumulative — after 3–4 sessions patients experience considerable improvement in symptoms and reduced dependency on eye drops, lasting at least 6 months and up to 2 years. A single maintenance session once a year is recommended.

LLLT | Low Level Light Therapy (Meibomask)

Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) with the Meibomask treats dry eye disease using gentle low-level light energy delivered comfortably over the eyelids to stimulate the Meibomian glands, encourage healthy oil production and reduce inflammation. The mask conforms softly around the eye area while you relax, providing a soothing, non-invasive session that complements IPL for enhanced and longer-lasting results. LLLT is particularly beneficial as part of a combined treatment approach for moderate-to-severe dry eye, working alongside IPL to maximise the overall treatment effect. LLLT treatment comprises of 4 sessions, spaced 1-2 weeks apart. A single maintenance session once a year is recommended.

ZEST Procedure | Zocular® Eyelid System

$100 per session

The ZEST procedure is specifically designed to treat dry eyes and blepharitis by clearing harmful biofilm, bacteria, and debris from the eyelids and eyelashes. The procedure uses a gel derived from natural ingredients such as okra polysaccharides, aloe vera, and soy protein, which help prevent irritation on your skin and eyes. It is soothing and painless, with optometrists gently rubbing along both the top and bottom eyelash line for a few minutes. After just one treatment, patients typically experience an improvement in their dry eye symptoms and blepharitis. ZEST provides additional benefit when performed in combination with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, before or on your first IPL session.

Eyespa – Blephasteam | Moist Heat Treatment

$50 per session

The most common cause of dry eye is Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Tiny oil glands line the margin of the lids and secrete oil to coat the eye surface, preventing evaporation of the tear film. In MGD, the gland openings become clogged, reducing the amount and quality of oil secretions. Using moist heat goggles at an ideal pre-set temperature, we melt the crusty oil build-up and unblock the gland openings, improving tear film quality and treating the root cause of dry eye for longer-lasting relief. The 15-minute Blephasteam EyeSpa treatment is a relaxing experience done with your eyes open, and is typically repeated every few months for best results.

Meibomian Gland Expression

Meibomian gland expression is a clinical procedure, performed by our optometrists, that generally follows Blephasteam, LLLT and/or IPL after the Meibomian glands have been heated. The procedure aims to clear blockages in the Meibomian glands to restore normal oil production. These blockages affect the quality and quantity of oil secretion needed for a healthy tear film and lead to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) and dry eye disease. During this procedure, we apply gentle pressure on your lower and upper eyelids to remove blockages and help treat MGD.
