Research has shown that single-vision glasses offer no protective effect against the eye's continued elongation, which causes myopia to worsen over time.

However, myopia control lenses are specifically designed to help slow the progression of myopia by up to 50% compared to traditional single-vision lenses. These lenses incorporate advanced optical designs that create controlled myopic defocus on the retina, a key factor in reducing further myopic development.

Myopia control glasses use peripheral defocus technology which creates signals that slow the elongation of the eye.

Glasses are also very common for patients newly diagnosed with myopia as a beginner treatment.

The Perks

Myopia control glasses allow the option of dual therapy, in which multiple myopia treatments can be used in conjunction to maximise myopia management treatments. This can include dual treatments of Atropine or Red Light Therapy (RLRL).

For patients currently on OrthoK or soft contact lenses, many also decide to also have a pair of myopia control glasses as either a backup or as a second treatment option. This allows patients to receive myopia management on occasions where they are not using their other treatment in the case of emergency or preference. 
Eyecare Concept's dispenses three options for myopia control glasses. Each treatment lens uses their own variant of myopia control technology.

Due to the treatment area of myopia control lenses, rounder and more circular frames are recommended over rectangle shapes.

Our dispensing team will help you choose an appropriate frame which will centre your pupil for the len, maximising the treatment zone of your myopia control glasses.

We will not dispense a frame which does not meet the treatment requirements. Your treatment and comfort is our top priority.

Myopia control glasses are recommended to be worn as much as possible, or for at least 12 hours a day. Especially for patients with higher levels of myopia, your glasses will provide visual correction which will aid in stopping eye strain and fatigue.
