How Does RLRL Work?RLRL delivers low-level red-light therapy to the back of the eye, stimulating blood flow at the back of the eye and thickening the outer layer of the eye known as the choroid. It has been found to significantly slow the elongation of the eye that causes myopia. Furthermore, it has even been found to not only slow elongation but shorten the eye in around 20% of patients, which can result in a patient’s prescription reverting to a lower degree.

Research studies for RLRL have been conducted on children from the ages of 3 to 16 which is the age range most myopia studies include. Our clinic currently has patients ranging from young children to adults using the treatment. Treatment is recommended to be continued until the risk of further progression is low. Patients above 16 years of age may be able to use RLRL as an off-label treatment.
There is no minimum prescription to use RLRL. RLRL therapy is also shown to provide greater effects towards patients with prescriptions of -5.00 or more (high myopia). |
